Founded in 1992, HAEE was originally intended to supplement the core budgetary funding resources governed by the Hampton Township Board of Education. The HAEE concept was initiated by then Assistant Superintendent Paula Calabrese, who also acted as the first administrative liaison to the Board of Education but never actually served as an HAEE trustee. The first President of the HAEE was Aaron Walton, whose leadership helped craft and develop the same mission and operating principles in use today.
From the beginning, the HAEE has been an all-volunteer, working Board of Trustees, whose charge is simply to promote and enhance the educational experience of the students of the Hampton Township School District (HTSD). Since inception, HAEE has raised nearly $1,000,000 to support HTSD through grants and scholarships.
Early fundraising efforts focused on a combination of corporate sponsors, United Way designations, and creative community events. Fundraising sources have expanded over the years to include Amazon Smile and the Education Improvement Tax Credit (Act IV) administered by the State of Pennsylvania Department of Economic Development, memorial donations as well as community donors reached through marketing campaigns.
The largest source of funding is the annual 5K Race and 1-Mile Walk. In 1993, its 2nd full year of existence, the HAEE held its inaugural event which has been held every year since including a virtual event during 2020’s pandemic. The Alliance Cup is a hotly contested award for the Hampton elementary school with the highest participation of students and staff. The Superintendent Challenge, Hampton Middle School team challenges and a staff participation breakfast all drive participation and make the HAEE 5K Race/1-Mile Walk a memorable fall Hampton event.
In 2012, the HAEE began awarding scholarships to graduating Hampton High School seniors who are attending college or a trade school. The Hampton All-Around Effort and Excellence Scholarship rewards a senior who has demonstrated a commitment to community service, leadership, and academic achievement throughout their high school careers. The Anna Kuhn Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of a beloved Board Member and is awarded annually to one senior who exemplifies the civic virtues – cooperation, responsibility, respect, humanitarianism, tolerance, fairness, perseverance, honesty, courage, or patriotism – that are important to the success of our community.
